  • Ghost for Marfa Contemporary

    / Comments (0)

Local studio, Ghost, recently finished branding for Marfa Contemporary, a Texas-based (and first) extension of Oklahoma City’s Arts Center. Ghost explains the concepts and process:

The rectangular and square shapes of the mark are used to reinforce the inspiring work and efforts of minimalist Donald Judd. The installations were structured and had a distinctive shape. The typography and mark when combined create the illusion of a rectangle allowing the eye to fill in the missing components. The mark also references the ends of the Judd cubes which were often hollow. Specialty printing techniques became a component of the identity and collateral involved, these include the use of metallic ink, soft-touch varnishes, clear foil and debossing. The site was developed with an open source CMS for easy updates by gallery staff and features responsive design for optimal viewing on any screen or smart device."

We think Ghost nailed the identity and branding. The minimalistic mark suits the work and the area. Our only complaint is the the pattern used on the tote bag/buttons. If your concepts surround the idea of square shapes, then why muddle it up with an awkward, cropped pattern that doesn't quite fit the scheme?

  • Portrait of Charles Haley

In honor of Veteran's Day, we have this great short from Created By Agent, featuring Korean War veteran Charles Haley.

"The video includes cuts from an interview with Haley and shows footage of his American flag. It was filmed in one day at Haley’s home and edited later for this release. All production was performed in-house by Agent with sound design from Jason Moore.

“The flag in front of Charles Haley’s house looks brilliant,” according to the video’s description. “We produced this video to show what kind of man would fly a flag like that.”

Charles Haley was living in Oklahoma and working as a typesetter for the newspaper when he was drafted for the Korean War. In this video, he talks of pride, service and country."
